Summary Word of the Day: Routine

It’s the last day of my 7 Day Challenge Giving Up Sugar already!

Day 7 has been similar to Day 6. Small changes, small steps forward, but still making progress. I’m so much further forward than I was a week ago!

I’ve realised that routine has a lot to do with my ability to make dietary changes. Without thinking, my brain automatically makes me do things because it’s my routine. Making dietary changes isn’t just about buying different stuff in the supermarket, it’s a whole routine change as well. Without changing your routine, you won’t make changes stick because otherwise you’re having to fight harder. I need to build a new routine around the changes I want to make, not try to fit the changes into my existing routine.

Hot drinks have now been reduced, so I’m having less sugar and I’m actually enjoying having Green Tea and Raspberry Leaf Tea. I can’t say that I’m enjoying coffee with no sugar, so that will have to go. If I can’t have it with sugar and enjoy it, I don’t want to have it at all!

I’m going to do a summary post to follow this one to sum up my 7 Day Challenge Giving Up Sugar. Even though I haven’t managed to give up sugar completely, it’s been a really positive experience!

Bullet point summary of Day 7:

What Did I Learn

  • Addressing your routine is as much part of making changes as what you buy in the supermarket.
  • I don’t like coffee with no sugar! I tried!
  • I do actually enjoy Green Tea and Raspberry Leaf Tea.
  • Even if the goal you set isn’t reached, you may learn other things you didn’t expect along the way – it’s a journey.

Positives and Negatives of Day 7

Positives

  • Minimal anxiety levels.
  • Clearer head and my mood is better.
  • I know that I need to address my routine to help make the changes easier.
  • I’m having less sugar than I have for a long time.

Negatives

  • There really aren’t any today!

Conclusion

My 7 Day Challenge Giving Up Sugar is officially over but I’m going to keep going with it. I would like to get to a place where I don’t have sugar, or at least if I do, it’s my choice and in very small quantities. This has been such a positive experience and an eye opener!
